Introducing My Blog

If you found this blogpost while surfing the web… that is surprising, since I intentionally refrained from optimizing this post for a Google search.
“Why would you do that?” I know some of you are already wondering, “Why would you write a post that’s unlikely to bring in new readers from Google search?”
My answer is that I want to take a moment to acknowledge the people who are already watching my videos and following my social media accounts. SEO matters, but community matters more. This first post is a message for the people who are shaping this community as I write.
If you’ve visited my YouTube channel, you know that I’ve been making a series on the services I offer as a freelance writer. I did this because YouTube is a great platform for learning things. There is so much value in sitting down for a video chat with someone who has information to share, especially in the post-pandemic world. My hope for my videos is that you leave each one with a better understanding of how writers help people.
Of course, blogging has been in the back of my mind from the beginning. As I’ve emphasized on my homepage, I have written some blogposts for companies and non-profit organizations. I knew from those experiences that a blog can take a lot of different forms (as I explain in one of my videos). So I took some time to think carefully about what I wanted this blog to be.
I decided that I want my blog to be a place where I learn with you.
Why?
Because reading is work. When you sit down to read one of my posts, you’re investing your time and attention in this community. I want to honor that investment by giving you a window into the ideas, information, and resources that are new to me. In other words, I want to share the things I’m learning and the ways I’m growing.
My hope for this project is that my readers and I will learn from each other. Comments, questions, emails, and DMs are welcome! (Just remember to be nice. Golden rule, people.)
So stay tuned for my upcoming post on the thing I want to learn more about right now: having a growth mindset.
I love learning about growth mindset!
